<![CDATA[Peter Gabriel Inducted Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame]]> Critics may have been puzzled by Coldplay‘s Chris Martin being chosen to induct Peter Gabriel into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But the vocalist proved to be an inspired choice, as he mixed humor and insight with perfect balance.

To kick off his soliloquy, he decided to read from “The Book of Genesis” — not the biblical version, but a story/hilarious extended metaphor mixing references to Gabriel, his former progressive rock band’s song titles and Phil Collins. “God came before Phil the Collins. The angel replied, ‘I am Gabriel,’” Martin cracked.

Martin also lightly poked fun at Gabriel’s dancing skills and fashion (“He’s repopularized the goatee”). However, he saved a more clever barb for Gabriel’s penchant for self-titling his albums, positing that after a string of eponymous records, his label asked him if he had something else for a title. “Like a petulant teenager, he said, ‘So?’ and they said, ‘That’s perfect.’”

Martin also highlighted Gabriel’s Real World studio and label and, naturally, the pop culture references that make Gabriel endure today: “He helped John Cusack get his girlfriend back in ‘Say Anything.’” Gabriel, in turn, returned the praise: “Chris has been working as a stand-up comic. He’s a great songwriter here.

Ever humble, Gabriel thanked his long-time bandmates by name — including David Rhodes, Tony Levin, Manu Katche — his many musical collaborators over the years and his family. “Surround yourself with brilliance. The brilliance of who you love being around — and the brilliance of their talent,” he says.

But in the speech’s most moving moment, Gabriel ended with a poetic rumination on the beauty and power of music. “Watch out for music. It should come with a health warning. It can be dangerous. It can make you feel so alive, so connected to the people around you.”

“And occasionally, it can make you very, very happy.”

<![CDATA[Van Morrison and Elvis Costello Lead Blues Fest Line Up]]> The fourth edition of London's BluesFest will run for six days in October, promoters have confirmed. And they've announced the first group of headline acts, all of whom will be celebrating their blues roots: Sheryl Crow, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello and Georgie Fame.

The annual event is held at the Royal Albert Hall for the second time this year, after the 2013 edition featured Robert Plant, Ronnie Wood, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Mavis Saples, Chris Rea and many others.

Venue boss Jasper Hope says: "Unlike any other time in the six years I have been here, the whole building was alive all day, every day - there were even concerts in the cafe."

<![CDATA[B.B. King's Stolen Gibson Lucille Inspired New Book]]> The new book B.B. King's Lucille and the Loves Before Her is a painstakingly researched travelogue through the universe of the blues great's gear, starting with the diddley bow he played in the Mississippi cotton fields as a boy and continuing through the current generation of the Gibson-made Lucille line of guitars he cradles on stage today, with plenty of information about amps, picks, strings and minutia along the way.

But there's also a fascinating story behind Nashville-based author Eric E. Dahl's inspiration for writing his authoritative debut book. It starts in 2009 at a Las Vegas pawn shop, where Dahl, a lifelong guitarist in blues and rock bands who's also a guitar appraiser, broadcaster and journalist, was called in to valuate an 80th Birthday model Lucille made by the Gibson Custom shop in 2005.

"They called me because they knew I bought and traded guitars, and I'd bought guitars from them before," Dahl explains. "I was living in Las Vegas and playing in the casinos during the weeknights and in church on Sundays, and would then go buy guitars with the money." He'd already purchased a B.B. King Lucille model from the Easy Pawn a few years earlier, and had no intention of purchasing the one they were about to put on the floor - until the shop's owner opened the case.

"The whole thing was covered in sweat," he recalls. "The strings were nasty. I thought, 'It'll take hours just to clean this.' I figured some local bluesman has hocked it. Then I flipped it over and looked at the headstock and it said, 'Prototype 1' in a white stamp. I'd never seen that before. I assumed it meant this was one of the original 80th Birthday model Lucilles that B.B. King had approved.

"So I bought it, took it home, polished it and cut off and replaced the strings and set it up. Little did I know I was wiping off B.B. King's DNA. Then I started researching it for two-and-half months. I started calling Gibson every week to see if somebody would talk to me about this guitar. I also reached out to George Gruhn and Walter Carter and the other usual suspects we know in the guitar business. Nobody could really tell me about this stamp on the back."

Dahl had no idea it was King's stolen guitar. The blues patriarch had not reported the theft to police, but had told Gibson. Eventually word of Dahl's quest reached Pat Foley, Gibson Brands' worldwide director of artist relations. Foley contacted Dahl and explained the guitar had been made at the Gibson Custom Shop as a gift for King's 80th birthday and was his main guitar until it was stolen.

Soon King's office began calling about the guitar. King wanted Dahl to meet with him to swap instruments. "But that took a while, too, because Gibson needed to get a replacement guitar to Mr. King for the one I had, and he insisted on doing the swap himself. Eventually I thought it wasn't going to happen. In fact, the night before the trade was supposed to happen I told my wife that - new guitar or not - I was going to give Mr. King back his guitar."

As luck had it, Gibson delivered a Lucille 80th Birthday guitar to King's office that morning, and the meeting occurred. "Mr. King shook my hand and he offered me a Diet Coke," Dahl recounts. " We sat down and spent about 45 minutes talking. He talked to me about playing at Bo Diddley's funeral. My friend was taking photos, and he said he didn't think Mr. King really believed it was the guitar until I opened the case and handed it to him. He was thrilled. He gave me a brand new Lucille and told me he hoped I'd enjoy playing mine as much as he enjoys playing his. He really does love these guitars. He signed a book for me and some old albums I'd brought, and gave me some guitar picks. He said he wanted a picture of he and I together for his office. He was always a hero of mine, and my dad's, who passed away young, at 43, in 1984.

"I came up with the idea for the book because I'd done so much research on B.B. and his guitars, just for my own search and my own knowledge, and I found so many inaccuracies. Anybody can put anything up on the Web. There was all sorts of wrong information about his past Gibsons, about the evolution of the Lucille… These things bothered me."

So Dahl approached King's office and asked for their blessing for a book on the history of their boss' instruments and related gear. "I'm a gear freak," he says. "I wanted to know about his gear and about how his gear got to where it is now. I think the evolution of his instruments, starting with a diddley bow on the plantation to playing a $10,000 guitar on stage today, is a fascinating story." And King's amps hold their own fascination. Dahl explains that prominent fans like Eric Johnson keep their antennae up for the long discontinued Lab Series amps King plays, buy them, and ship the amps to him. King then replaces their O.E.M. speakers with Peavey Black Widows.

As Dahl's book relates, the current Lucilles are just part of a long line of Gibson guitars that King has played over the past seven decades. He briefly played a Les Paul Gold Top, but favored the L-30 for many years, after he graduated up from the Stella acoustics he played on the plantation in Mississippi. "That was the 'Lucille' he want back into the house fire in Twist, Arkansas, to save," Dahl notes, alluding to the famous story of how King began calling his guitars "Lucille."

<![CDATA[Kurt Cobain's Death Case Reopened Then Closed By Police]]>

In a shocking turn of events, Seatlle police have re-opened the case surrounding the 1994 death of Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain. According to KIRO 7, the reason behind the new look at the case revolves around four rolls of camera film that sat undeveloped in a police evidence vault until recently.

After developing and looking at the images, Seattle police said "they more clearly show the scene than the earlier Polaroid photos taken by investigators."

Cobain's death by shotgun blast had been determined a suicide by the medical examiner at the time, just days after leaving a rehab facility. The Nirvana frontman was found to have also taken a lethal dosage of heroin before the gunshot.

There are no indications if this new evidence is pointing towards any foul play involved in the singer's untimely death, which has long been the source of conjecture and controversy among fans and true-crime enthusiasts alike.

"He dug up the files and had another look and there was nothing new," she told the Seattle Times in regards to the detective's reexamination of the evidence.

<![CDATA[Randy Rhoads Previously Unheard Recordings With Ozzy Go Online]]> Bob Daisley published a selection of unheard clips featuring the late Randy Rhoads, recorded while they were memeber of Ozyy Osbourne's first post Black Sabbath outfit Blizzard of Ozz.

The tapes were made between December 1979 and March 1981, and offer a range of glimpses into the band's development, including the moment Rhoads received and first tried out his effects pedal board.

The bassist, who hopes one day to release what he calls his "Holy Grail" tapes, launched the clips to mark the 32nd anniversary of Rhoads' death - and he's also taken the opportunity to illustrate how hectic life was in the band, especially once manager Don Arden appointed his daughter Sharon as tour coordinator.

"I've got one show on tape, but it's not labelled so I'm not sure which gig it is," Daisley says on his website along with the music posts. "Sharon had only just arrived back from America before the tour began. Dates were being moved, added, pulled, postponed and rescheduled at short notice.

<![CDATA[Iggy and the Stooges drummer Scott Asheton Dead at 64]]> Iggy and the Stooges drummer Scott Asheton has died at the age of 64, it's been confirmed. He co-founded the band in 1967 alongside Iggy Pop, bassist Dave Alexander, who passed away in 1975, and his guitarist brother Ron Asheton, who died in 2009.

No cause of death has been given, but he'd been unwell since suffering a stroke after the band played at Hellfest in France in 2011. He'd been replaced by Toby Dammit on the road since then. His last studio appearance was on last year's album Ready To Die.

Confirming Asheton had passed on Saturday, Pop said in a statement: "Scott was a great artist. I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world."

<![CDATA[Former New Found Glory Guitarist Facing Multiple Felony Charges]]> Former New Found Glory Guitarist Steve Klein is facing multiple felony charges for lewd conduct with a minor and child pornography and both his attorney and the band have issued statements about the charges.

Klein entered a plea of not guilty to two counts of lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 14, three counts of lewd conduct with a minor 14 or 15, one count of intent to commit lewd acts with a minor and one count of possession of child pornography back on December 12, 2013 at San Luis Obispo Superior Court, according to Alternative Press.

After they published their original report they received the following statement from Klein's attorney, Debra White: "It is a difficult challenge to defend oneself in the media when there is a pending criminal case. This is because people are quick to assume that if a person is charged with a crime, they are also guilty as charged. And it is especially difficult because criminal defense attorneys insist that their clients not talk about the case to ensure that their constitutional rights are protected. Furthermore, attorneys are limited by law as to what can and cannot be said about a case to the public.

"In the matter of Steve Klein, since his case has now been brought into issue by the media, I am permitted to make a few statements. To that effect, I offer you the following indisputable facts about the accusations:

"1. Steve Klein is not accused of having any lewd actual physical contact with any minor.

"2. ALL charges against Steve are derived solely from online consensual video chats between Steve and some female strangers he met on an adult website. Steve believed the females were over the age of 18.

"3. The females alleged to be "minors" in this case are not known females. This means that no one, not the prosecution, not the police, and not the defense, actually know who the females are and no one knows their true age.

"4. The possession of child pornography charge is based solely on Steve allegedly "possessing" the videos of chats with the female strangers from the adult website.

"This is about all I am permitted to disclose at this time. But I can tell you, from my many years of experience in this specialty area of criminal defense, I wholeheartedly believe that Steve Klein is innocent of all of these charges.

"Steve is devastated by these accusations. He has lost his band, his livelihood, and his ex-wife continues to push for full custody of his children using this case as her pawn while he literally fights for his life. Despite this heavy hand, Steve remains strong and hopeful that he will be vindicated."

Alternative Press have an extensive report with more details including the possible amount of time that Klein faces if he is convicted on these charges. Read that here

Klein's former bandmates in New Found Glory issued this statement after the news about his charges broke: "Upon our return from Warped Tour Australia, Steve made us aware of possible allegations that might be made against him. At that point, not knowing all the details, we made the decision to part ways in order for him to deal with these personal issues. Us 4 members of New Found Glory have given our entire lives to this band and will continue to do so. We've been able to play all over the world for the most amazing fans. We can't wait to get in the studio to make a new album and we can't wait to get back on the road! Just coming off the Parahoy cruise and a surprise show in our hometown we are more inspired than ever! Thank you so much to everyone around the globe for always sticking by us. The future is bright."

<![CDATA[Rolling Stones' Keith Richards Releasing Children's Book]]> Little, Brown Books for Young Readers have announced that they will be releasing a children's book from Rolling Stones star Keith Richards and his daughter September 9th.

Richards daughter Theodora Richards illustrated the forthcoming book, entitled "Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar", which was inspired by Richards' grandfather.

The autobiographical story centers on Richards being introduced to music by his grandfather Theodore Augustus Dupree, who was known as "Gus" and was a member of a jazz big band.

The book will also feature photographs from Richards' family collection and the hardcover edition of the book will include an audio CD that will feature bonus content.

"I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I'm talking about," says Keith. "The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured. This is a story of one of those magical moments. May I be as great a grandfather as Gus was to me."

"When I found out they wanted me to be a part of this project, my immediate instinct was to say yes, and I am so happy I did," says Theodora. "To be able to explore my father's relationship with his grandfather was a gift in itself. The things that I've learnt during this whole process have just been life affirming."

<![CDATA[Tool Deny Album Rumor]]> Tool has struck down reports that they have completed work on their long awaited new studio album. The rumors started after a fan misunderstood a sarcastic remark from guitarist Adam Jones before a recent concert.

The band and Jones both quickly publicly denied an online report that stated Jones told a fan at a VIP meet & greet event in Portland, OR last Thursday that the band's first new album since 2006's '10,000 Days' was "100 percent done" and that would be released later this year.

Jones address the report with the following message on his Twitter account on Friday, "FYI, 'The record's done and it's coming out tomorrow' is what I said yesterday, followed by 'just kidding'. . . ".

The band made an official statement to Rolling Stone on Friday. They told the publication, "Last night, Adam Jones, in a private conversation with fans attending the Portland Tool concert, joked that the band's new album was not only finished but coming out the next day.

"Unfortunately, his off-the-cuff joke was taken out of context. Work on the forthcoming album is ongoing and as soon as it is done, trust me, we will be the first to let everyone know."

<![CDATA[Kurt Cobain Hoax Exposed]]> For those that had their image of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain shattered with thoughts of him hitting the ski slopes after reading about a dubious Craigslist advertisement, you can now breathe easier. It was a hoax.

The hoax Craigslist posting purported to be from Cobain's former roommate who was trying to sell some personal items that used to belong to the late singer including a pair of skis, a video game and a telephone.

After some mainstream media outlets like Billboard reported on the listing as if it were genuine, Revolt exposed it as a hoax put together by Sub Pop Records receptionist Derek Erdman and even reached out to Erdman to learn more about the hoax.

Erdman told the site, "Friday morning, right after I got to work. I was supposed to be working on something else that I haven't been able to get into, so I created a diversion. Then I ignored it and went back to work. A few hours later I did an interview with CBC radio about it. Later that night I met a TV news crew (with cameras!) at the aforementioned Safeway for an interview, but they called my bluff and asked for ID. I told them that I was a one time bass player for 90s band Gruntruck. They didn't buy it, and they were visibly not happy about me wasting their time, I was wearing a flannel shirt though."

They then asked him about the reaction to the ad and if people actually wanted to buy the items. He said, " F*** YES, THEY WANT THEM BAD. They also want that video game. I've gotten a lot of replies from 'serious collectors' and people who will pay for shipping. Have you ever shipped skis? That sounds like it would be really difficult. Not too many people wrote about the Swatch phone, which was surprising."

<![CDATA[Elvis Costello Remixes Johnny Cash]]> It's no secret that Elvis Costello is a fan of Johnny Cash. He's covered Cash songs numerous times throughout his career, including a live version of Cash's early hit "Cry Cry Cry" that wound up on the reissued version of Costello's country tribute album Almost Blue.

Now Costello has taken his appreciation of Cash a step further, by releasing a remix of a previously 'lost' Cash song, "She Used to Love Me a Lot." That version of the song is currently streaming on Pitchfork.

The remix is set for commercial release on Record Store Day (April 19), as part of a limited 7-inch single that will also feature Cash's original version of the song. That original version was cut in the 1980s but set aside for decades, and is now resurfacing on the upcoming 'new' Johnny Cash album, Out Among the Stars, that's finally seeing the light of day later this month (March 25).

Out Among the Stars is not a reissue or a collection of demos. It's a full studio album Cash recorded in the 1980s and then, after his record company (Columbia) chose not to release it, stashed away in the family archives for three decades.

<![CDATA[Sebastian Bach Reveals Given Em Hell Details]]> Sebastian Bach has revealed more details of his forthcoming album Give 'Em Hell, which features guitarists John 5, Steve Stevens and Devin Bronson, along with Duff McKagan on bass.

Give 'Em Hell will be released on April 18 in Europe and April 22 in North Aermica via Frontiers Records. The album is the follow-up to 2011's Kicking & Screaming, and it too was produced by Bob Marlette (Rob Zombie, Black Sabbath, Shinedown). Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Riot, Fate's Warning) is on drums.

Bach is characteristically enthusiastic about the album. "We have captured some kick-ass rock and roll magic and producer par excellence Bob Marlette is the wizard behind the board," Bach says.

"It is such an awesome feeling to be able to say to the planet if you like the music I have put out before, I can guarantee you will dig this one! I cannot stop listening to it and that is the whole intention.

"For those of you who dig my high crazy-ass screams of the other records, well, I am proud to say this new disc features all the ranges and textures I have been known for, clean soaring melodic ballads and blood-curdling death screams from hell."

<![CDATA[Former Pearl Jam Executive Sentenced To 14 Months In Prison]]> Rickey Charles Goodrich, the former chief financial officer at Pearl Jam's management company, Curtis Management, was sentenced to 14 months in prison for stealing from the band.

Goodrich was sentenced after pleading guilty to six counts of first-degree theft, after being charged with stealing $380,000 from the management company over a four-year period prior to his firing in 2010.

The Seattle Police department determined that his thefts had cost the management company a total of $566,000, including investigative expenses, according to Seattlepi.com

They also report that if Goodrich had paid back the money before the sentencing hearing last Friday (February 28), the prosecutors were to ask that he only be sentenced to six month. He ultimately received the 14 month sentence after failing to pay all of the money back.

<![CDATA[Queen To Make Big Announcement]]> As expected, Queen will be making a big announcement next week with Adam Lambert. Recently rumblings from the Queen camp suggest that the band will be embarking on a tour with the American Idol runner-up as lead vocalist.

Queen and Lambert have announced that they will be holding a special event at Madison Square Garden in New York City next Thursday, according to ABC News Radio, who assume that the event ties in with "some kind of concert event or series."

The event announcement follows Queen guitarist Brian May's comments to Radio 2 host Steve Wright earlier this month. "We've been talking to Adam Lambert, you know we've already done some gigs with Adam, who is amazing," he said.

"We are ongoing, we can't help it. I think we all protested too much in the sense when Freddie went and we didn't want to talk about it and didn't want to be Queen for a while."

"But after a while," he continued, "you realize that people wanna hear the songs and see us do things. So, no matter what you call it, Roger and I do do stuff, and I think we'll be doing some more stuff this summer in fact, probably in the States."

Queen's previous performances with Lambert include the legendary band joining the singer during the American Idol finale where Lambert was the runner-up to Kris Allen.

<![CDATA[David Crosby Has Heart Surgery postponing upcoming tour dates]]> David Crosby (Crosby, Stills and Nash, The Byrds) announced on Monday that he had a heart procedure done on Valentine's Day which has forced him to postpone some of his upcoming tour dates.

Crosby's official site says that he underwent a cardiac catheterization and angiogram, based on the results of a routine cardiac stress test at the urging of his doctor.

They report that his left anterior coronary artery was found to be 90% blocked, and two stents were placed to provide blood flow to his heart muscle and he is expected to have a full recovery.

As a result of the procedure and his need to recover he has been forced to postpone his upcoming shows in San Francisco, and Los Angeles until April and his shows in Chicago will be moved to July. However, the upcoming Crosby, Stills & Nash tour will be going ahead as planned.

"I am very glad that I listened to my doctors and my family. It seems I am once again a very lucky man," says David Crosby. "I'm sorry to have to move the dates, but I promise the music will be good when we do play them."

<![CDATA[Gibson Announces Signature Les Paul for ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons]]> Gibson has announced the release of the Billy F. Gibbons Goldtop Les Paul guitar that they say meets the ZZ Top maestro's exacting standards and then some.

Featuring a luminous goldtop finish adorned with a unique pinstripe designed by Billy himself, the instrument is visually dazzling. Ultra-light construction, custom electronics, a pair of Seymour Duncan "Pearly Gates" pickups, and a neck profile measured precisely from Gibbons' own Les Paul highlight an array of carefully considered sonic features.

150 of the Billy F. Gibbons Goldtops will be hand-aged, with 50 of them played and personally hand-signed by Billy. "With Wolfgang in the band now," said the guitarist, "he does a lot of work with Van Halen right now, they're putting together a new album, so it's going to be hard to get everybody's schedules to line up."

Asked if Wolfgang has revealed much about how the new Van Halen material sounds, Tremonti replied, "You know, he doesn't. He just says, 'Yeah, sounds great, man. Sounds great.'"

<![CDATA[RHCP Chad Smith and Will Ferell Headed To Battle?]]> It's a long-standing fact that Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and actor Will Ferrell share an uncanny resemblance. The pair are both well aware that they look alike, and when Smith appeared on The Tonight Show with Chickenfoot in 2009, he wore a t-shirt with the text "I Am Not Will Ferrell." Well, now it seems the time has come for the two doppelgangers to meet in public.

Last week Smith posted a video video via Funny or Die where he joked about Ferrell's lack of drumming abilities, saying "I've seen your skills. You don't got 'em." This prompted Ferrell to respond via reddit: "Hi, Chad. Will Ferrell here. I saw your video and I graciously accept your invitation to a drum battle. If we can raise $300,000 for Cancer for College I will face off with you in the greatest drum vs. cowbell showdown the world has ever seen. We can do it on stage at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert or in front of a mutually convenient public library. Your call. Also, would you rather fight a hundred duck sized ducks or one horse sized horse?"

Apparently the battle royale is a go, since Smith tweeted a picture while donating blood with the caption "Gettin juiced for the drum battle." Although there's no word yet on when and where this showdown will take place, it's certain to be one of the funniest events of the year.

<![CDATA[KISS Make "Reality Show" Deal]]> KISS founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons have signed a deal with AMC for a new reality show that will document the launch of the band's new Arena Football team L.A. Kiss.

The as-yet-untitled series will feature 10 episodes and is set to debut this summer on the cable network, according to Hollywood Reporter. Thinkfactory Media, who worked with Simmons on 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels,' will produce the new series.

"We are thrilled to partner with AMC in bringing our show to the viewing public," Stanley said. "Anyone who knows Gene and I knows we have never played by the rules. This opportunity to see the making of our team of rebels, the L.A. Kiss, from behind the scenes will once again show everyone that we play to win."

AMC's Senior Vice President for Unscripted Programming Eliot Goldberg told the Hollywood Reporter, "We look forward to capturing all the trials and tribulations of launching a sports franchise in a great sports city like Los Angeles."

He adds, "These are incredibly dedicated athletes, coaches and management who want to win, and the fact that the team has rock and roll royalty in the owners box just adds another great dimension to the series.

<![CDATA[Metallica, Corey Taylor, Rob Halford, Motorhead to tribute Dio]]> An all-star collection of hard rock and heavy metal artists are paying tribute to the carrier of metal legend Ronnie James Dio in a new album, entitled "This is Your Life," which will be released on April 1st.

The collection covers tracks from Ronnie's career in Dio, Rainbow and Black Sabbath and features contributes from Metallica, Motorhead with Saxon's Biff Byford, Slipknot's Corey Taylor, Anthrax, Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford, Scorpions, Halestorm, Adrenaline Mob, Glenn Hughes, Killswitch Engage, some of Dio's former bandmates and more.

The album was produced by Dio's wife and manager Wendy Dio and some of the money raised from the collection will towards the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

We were sent these details: Ronnie's time with Rainbow will be covered by Metallica's epic, nine-minute "Ronnie Rising Medley," which combines the Rainbow songs "A Light In The Black," "Tarot Woman," "Stargazer," and "Kill The King." Scorpions add a scorching take on "The Temple Of The King" while Motörhead is joined by Biff Byford from Saxon on "Starstruck." Rob Halford teams with frequent Dio collaborators Vinny Appice, Doug Aldrich, Jeff Pilson, and Scott Warren for "The Man On The Silver Mountain." The final line-up of Dio's solo band - Simon Wright, Craig Goldy, Rudy Sarzo and Scott Warren - are joined by Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) for "Catch The Rainbow," a track from Rainbow's 1975 debut.

Anthrax and Adrenaline Mob honor Dio's time with Black Sabbath with their takes on "Neon Knights" and "The Mob Rules" respectively, as does a group, led by Oni Logan on vocals along with Jimmy Bain, Rowan Robertson, and Brian Tichy, which performs "I" from Dehumanizer.

The album also features material from Dio's back-to-back platinum albums Holy Diver (1983) and The Last In Line (1984), with Doro's take on "Egypt (The Chains Are On)", Halestorm tackling "Straight Through The Heart," Corey Taylor (Stone Sour, Slipknot) covering the classic "Rainbow In The Dark" and Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Glass) putting their signature spin on "The Last In Line." Killswitch Engage's cover of "Holy Diver," a hit in its own right when released in 2006, is also included here.

Fittingly, Ronnie James Dio provides the finale (and the album's title) with his moving performance of "This Is Your Life." Originally released on Angry Machines (1996), the song's lyrics explore mortality and are backed by a stark and beautiful arrangement that features Dio accompanied only by his longtime keyboardist Scott Warren on piano. The song serves as a poignant reminder that we will never hear a voice like Dio's again.

<![CDATA[Foreigner, Styx and Don Felder Teaming Up for Tour]]> Foreigner, Styx, and former Eagles star Don Felder have announced that will be teaming up for a North American trek this summer which they have dubbed "The Soundtrack of Summer".

The tour is set to launch on May 16 in Oklahoma City, OK at the Zoo Amphitheatre and will conclude on July 27th in 27 Santa Barbara, CA. Styx and Foreigner will be switching for the closing spot from night to night.

"As longtime friends, we're happy to join Styx and Don Felder for the ultimate soundtrack of summer," says Foreigner founding member and lead guitarist Mick Jones. "Our combined songs are some of America's favorite summer anthems, and we're excited to be bringing them to our fans across the country."

"This tour will have the best vocalists and guitarists on the road today," exclaims Don Felder. "The sheer volume of our combined catalogs is massive and should satisfy any rock & roll fan, and rock them until they can't walk out of the place."

"The addition of Don Felder to 'The Soundtrack of Summer' tour means that the combined album sales of all 3 acts, as well as all the bands they were once members of, is well north of 200 million worldwide," declares Styx guitarist/singer James "JY" Young. "Certainly by this yardstick, 'The Soundtrack of Summer' has got to easily be in the Top Ten three-act concert tours to ever hit the road. 'Renegade' 'Juke Box Heroes' partying at the 'Hotel California' will be your slammin' soundtrack of a rockin' hot summer!!! What more could you ask for after this crazy cold winter we are having???"

<![CDATA[The Who Want To Make New Album for 50th Anniversary]]> This year, The Who are celebrating their 50th anniversary as a band with new music. In an interview with NME, Roger Daltrey said he will reunite with Pete Townshend to make a new album.

"Pete's got hundreds of songs," he said. "So the only question is whether we get around to it, but he wants to make an album and I'm always ready and raring to go. We'll see. I never know what I'm doing next, it's about what comes through my letterbox tomorrow, but I don't see why we wouldn't. My voice is still in good shape. The hearing isn't so great, but the voice is fine."

If Daltrey and Towshend do record together this year, it will mark The Who's 12th album and their first since 2006′s Endless Wire. Daltrey told Radio.com late last year, "We're maybe doing an album next year, and touring in 2015, which will be our last big tour. That's not to say that we won't play again. We'll still do events, and we will find new ways to perform, whether it's sitting down in smaller venues for a week, so we don't have to do the schlepping. It's the schlepping that's killing us.

<![CDATA[Motorhead Cancel Tour Due To Lemmy's Health]]> Expressing their "great regret", Motorhead have been forced to announce the cancellation of their European tour, scheduled to start in February. This is the latest in a series of cancellations. Lemmy has been struggling with health issues since he suffered a haematoma in July 2013, leading to a three-week spell in hospital.

The band called off a summer tour, then cut short their comeback show at the Wacken festival in Germany. They then postponed a European tour set to begin in November.

An official statement reads as follows: "Many concerted, diligent and focused efforts were made by founding member, and international icon, Lemmy Kilmister to deal with a range of health issues relating to diabetes. While there has been undoubted progress, Lemmy and the band were advised by doctors that it was still too soon to resume full touring activities, and so for the good of the future, the band and Lemmy reluctantly agreed to cancel.

"No-one is hurting more over this than Lemmy, and he feels the aggravation and inconvenience of every ticket, and every method of transportation, already paid for by loyal fans in anticipation of the tour. Being a road warrior of over 50 dedicated, non-stop years, it is equally distressing for him to be unable to occupy the top lounge of the trusty tour bus (his spiritual home) but Lemmy recognises that his long-term health must win."

<![CDATA[Jack White and Neil Young Working on an Album]]> Get ready for a retro Americana throwdown of epic proportions if early reports of a collaboration between Jack White and Neil Young to record an album of cover songs are to be believed.

According to veteran music writer Michael Goldberg (via his blog Days of the Crazy-Wild), the dynamic duo of White and Young laid down versions of Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind," Phil Ochs' "Changes" and Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Morning Rain" among others for the covers album his sources say is destined for White's Third Man Records label, with a possible release on Warner Bros. as well.

The blog also references Neil Young fan site Thrasher's Wheat, alleging the covers collaboration back in December of last year and adding that Third Man would release the album in a special vinyl format.

The band’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, confirmed to Billboard that McVie has rejoined the band. McVie left in 1998, after they had gone on a successful reunion tour and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

She isn’t a founding member of Fleetwood Mac, but joined the band in 1970 after marrying bass player John McVie, and has written and sung some of the band’s biggest hits, including “Say You Love Me,” ”Sugar Daddy,” “Songbird,” “Don’t Stop,” “You Make Loving Fun,” “Over and Over,” “Think About Me,” “Hold Me,” “Little Lies” and “Everywhere.”

<![CDATA[Neil Young says "rock stars don't need oil" ]]> Neil Young is not backing away from his criticism of the Harper government and the expansion of the oilsands, responding to a statement from the prime minister’s spokesperson with a point-by-point refutation.

Young blasted the government's approval of a mine expansion plan in northern Alberta during a news conference Sunday, where he said Stephen Harper’s government was choosing money over integrity in its ongoing approval of oilsands projects.

Harper's spokesperson responded to Young's claims in a statement issued Sunday, saying even "rock stars" use the resources that are being recovered in Alberta. "Even the lifestyle of a rock star relies, to some degree, on the resources developed by thousands of hard-working Canadians every day," MacDonald said.

Young issued a point-by-point refutation of MacDonald's claims on Monday.

The 68-year-old rock music legend said he had an issue with the government "breaking treaties with the First Nation and plundering the natural resources the First Nation has rights to under the treaties."

Young also noted that "rock stars don’t need oil," pointing out that he drove his electric car from California to the oilsands and on to Washington without using any oil at all.

"And I'm a rock star. My car's generator runs on biomass, one of several future fuels Canada should be developing for the post-fossil fuel age," he continued.

"As to the thousands of hard-working Canadians, we have respect for all working people. The quandary we face is the job they are working on. They are digging a hole that our grandchildren will have great trouble digging their way out of . . . There are better jobs to be developing, with clean energy source industries to help make the world a safer place for our grandchildren."

Young is in the middle of a four-date tour benefiting Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Legal Fund.

His goal is to raise $75,000 to help the First Nation in its legal challenge of two Shell Canada mine projects in Alberta's Athabasca tar sands region.

Young's statement included allegations of the toxic environmental effects of the oilsands and pointed out that the "oil is not going to Canada, but to China where the air quality has been measured at 30 times the levels of safety established by the World Health Organization."

"Is that what Canada is all about?" he asked. "As a Canadian citizen, I am concerned that this government is not acting within the advice of science."

Young closed by responding to another of MacDonald's statements, in which he said the government "recognizes the importance of developing resources responsibly and sustainably and we will continue to ensure that Canada's environmental laws and regulations are rigorous."

"When people say one thing and do another, it is hypocrisy," Young replied.

"Our Canadian environmental laws don't matter if they are broken."

<![CDATA[Jason Newstead after 13 years explains why he left Metallica]]> Thirteen years after Jason Newsted left Metallica, the bassist is finally telling the story of why he left the band. In a new interview with ScuzzTV, Newsted finally chose to tell the much pondered-about tale.

"I've never told this story, I'm not sure if I should tell it now, actually," Newsted begins. "There was a lot leading up to it through time … The very upside-down thing that I don't think anybody knows; the management of Metallica was very, very excited about Echobrain [one of Newsted's side projects], wanted to take it out for me, wanted me to do Echobrain also, with Metallica. They felt Echobrain was that good, the singer was that good, and it didn't affect Metallica because it was a totally different kind of thing, and I was in Metallica; that would give it it's pedigree already."

Newsted continues, "And so they had told me, pretty convincingly, 'This is a great record, we've been playing it around the office, that's all I've been hearing, it's fantastic, this kid has a great voice. Let's do something with this.' That's what they told me, and then James [Hetfield] heard about it and was not happy. He was, I think, pretty much out to put the kibosh on the whole thing because it would somehow affect Metallica in his eyes, because now the managers were interested in something I was doing that had nothing to do with him."

The bassist sums up the situation as follows: "I have no idea what [Hetfield] was thinking, other than just protecting what he valued, just like he does; that's his thing. He protects what he loves, squeezes it too hard, like he said himself. Squeeze it too hard, protecting it too much. That's where I was coming from. The people that I had counted on for 15 years to help me with my career, help Metallica, take care of my money, do all of those things, told me, 'Your new project is fantastic, we'd like to help you with it.' James heard about it, the manager calls me back a couple of days later — 'Sorry we're not going to be able to help you with that Echobrain thing.'"

<![CDATA[Motley Crue announcing farewell tour]]> Motley Crue are expected to announce details regarding their farewell tour at a January 28th event in Los Angeles billed as "RIP: All Bad Things Must Come To An End."

In the past year, the group have spoken openly about their farewell tour plans. "It's definitely for real," singer Vince Neil told the Oakland Press last August. "We want to go out on top. We don't want to be one of those bands that people are like, 'Oh, they're playing a ... little club now. We still sell out arenas and do stadium shows and stuff like that, and that's how we want to be remembered."

"It's just time," he continued. "Mick's (Mars) health is not that good, and touring is tough on him. I'm sure in five, 10 years' time we'll probably do something together again, but it's not gonna be like a KISS farewell to the farewell to the farewell tour. We're not gonna be like that."

"It'll happen, but we don't know when it will happen," Nikki Sixx told Rolling Stone in October. "The most important thing about a farewell tour is that the band doesn't lie to the fans, and the band doesn't tour and then come back years later. That's what's important for us, planning what's the right time to go out. We have a great fan base, we have original fans all the way down to teenagers, and we really feel grateful to that and we continue to reinvent ourselves over the years. People always tried to make us an unimportant part of rock history and that doesn't really affect us because it's always been that way. Critics have always snubbed us. The thing about Motley Crue is we are a people's band, we don't kiss ass to the industry. We believe artists should be in control of their own destiny and that destiny also includes when it should be done so that their fans can forever be proud. It's not one or two band members up there dragging the band name around. It's a band for a reason, it works for a reason. We're really proud of that. I think that's why, when the day does come, we want to be proud of our band and what we've achieved."

We will be forever grateful for the opportunity and the experience, and for the love, enthusiasm, and support of the incredible fans.

"We are both preparing to dig even deeper into our various creative and musical endeavors and, as a result, 2014 will be our final year as part of the band. We are looking forward to seeing our loyal ABB fans at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta this Friday night January 10th and in March at the Beacon Theater in New York City as we celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the band."

He was asked two questions directly about performing with original guitarist Ace Frehley and original drummer Peter Criss. In one question he was asked "Any plans yet on wearing makeup wit ace and peter at induction?" and he responded "no way."

While that answer ruled out them reuniting in makeup, another fan asked "gene ace and peter and yourself going to play the hof together?" and he responded, "Seems unlikely."

He was also asked if he had any hard feelings towards Peter and Ace and Stanley told the fans, "None. Proud to be inducted with them."

And one fan asked him "Paul don't u think things could be alot better since Ace and Peter are sober?" He responded with a simple "no."

02 – U2
The band will return this spring with the follow-up to 2009’s “No Line On The Horizon.” Danger Mouse has been producing the project, and reports indicate U2 are currently shopping for brand partners to announce the album via a Super Bowl commercial.

03 – Foo Fighters
Dave Grohl & Co. are working on the follow-up to 2011’s “Wasting Light.” Butch Vig is producing the project, which Grohl says is being made in a way that no one’s ever done before…without elaborating or giving that secret away.

04 – Metallica
The metal icons have been busy touring the past few years while stockpiling riffs for future use, and they say they’re planning to hit the studio in 2014. At least one new Metallica track will surface this year, as the group has committed to playing one new tune on their summer "Metallica By Request" tour of Europe…while fans vote to select the other 17 songs for each concert.

05 - KISS
The band will make the loudest noise at their induction into the 2014 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in New York on April 10. After years of slamming the institution, the band whipped the KISS Army into a frenzy to win the fan-voted ballot. Now, the question fans want to know is will the original lineup reunite one more time for the historical event.

06 – Rolling Stones
With three-quarters of the band’s remaining members over 70 (Ron Wood’s the baby at 66), the Stones will continue to play live this year with dates already announced for the United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

07 – The Beatles
The band will sell 1964’s US invasion of Beatlemania all over again on its 50th anniversary. This month, the group releases a 13-disc box set, “The U.S. Albums.” The package celebrates the Beatles arrival in New York on February 7, 1964, and the February 9 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, which was viewed by more than 74 million in the States (40% of the population), a record at the time and considered a watershed moment in pop culture. A Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys will be issued later this month, as well.

08 – Motorhead
The band returns to live action in February following a series of postponed shows and tours due to Lemmy’s health issues. All eyes will be on the legendary frontman as he returns to the stage in support of the group’s new album, “Aftershock.”

09 – Queen
Queen have been working on unreleased tracks by Freddie Mercury for eventual release. Brian May and Roger Taylor are recording music to accompany Freddie’s vocals, as they did with 1995’s “Made In Heaven”album. There’s also a few songs Mercury recorded with Michael Jackson in the 1980s that are expected to see the light of day.

10 – New releases
